Sampson and Delilah

At Sandfield Park two trees

stood together in a field.

We called them

Sampson and Delilah

and climbed them, often.

I took my first boyfriend

there, an under aged smoker

called Albert.

We sat in Sampson.

He pulled thoughtfully

on his cigarette

and said nothing,

because there was

nothing to say.

I wished I’d never

taken him there

to our trees.

Delilah felt the same
